About the kid in the press box

I was born on October 25, 1984, a scant three weeks after the Chicago Cubs choked in the 1984 NLCS against the San Diego Padres to Joyce and Ronnie Hancock.

And a year before Ciara was born (didn’t know that until a few months ago).

I grew up in the Orange Mound/U of M area of Memphis where I developed a love for reading and writing. I began reading books at the age of two, knew all of my state captiols by the time I was five, and knew all the members of the Missouri Valley Conference by the time I was in eighth grade.

I attended Hanley Elementary, Airways Middle, Snowden Middle, Fairview Junior High, Melrose High School, and finally Whitehaven High School, where I graduated from in 2003.

From there it was to Southern Illinois University, where I lasted all of one semester because of some family issues and returned to Memphis.

When I returned to Memphis in 2004, I began writing a series of columns for the weekly North Shelby Times that were funny observations on people and their lives. My columns were in the newspaper for two summers until last May when I left the newspaper to concentrate on my current job as a counselor at Porter-Leath Children’s Center.

Through those columns, I decided to start blogging about people, more importantly my friends and our adventures as well as the happenings in the sports world in the summer of 2005, which is the same blog that you are reading today.

Of course, the stuff that I write about in this blog probably wouldn’t see the light of day in your local newspaper, whether it’s girls I have an interest in or roadtrip adventures that aren’t really family-oriented but I do try to write about the sports world and things that go on in my life as well as a way to balance it out.

I hold an associate’s degree in English from Southwest Tennessee Community College and will be attending hopefully Crichton College to receive my Bachelor’s in English.

That’s about it for now.

Here’s some quick facts that you should know about me:

Zodiac sign:Scorpio

Alma Mater: Whitehaven ‘03 (high school), Southwest Tennessee Community College ‘06, Cricthton (hopefully)

Celebrity dream date: Esther Baxter (for the right reasons)

Favorite college basketball team: I grew up a Memphis Tiger basketball fan like almost any kid my age here in Memphis, but in college basketball, I generally root for either the Fighting Illini of Illinois or the Memphis Tigers. I also like the Xavier Musketeers as well.

Best sporting moment:The 2006 baseball season. Can’t beat that with a pogo stick.

Favorite sports event in Memphis:A Redbirds game at Autozone Park.

Worst sports event in Memphis: The fucking C-USA tournament that comes here. Who would pay top money to watch the Tigers drop shit bombs on the poor and weak every year?

Doc – Your last observation there makes me want to invite you over to “If I Ran”. Check it out at http://ifiran.blogspot.com
We’ve been getting sports bloggers to “fix” things that annoy them, and I think it would be great if you could “run” the C-USA tournament – we could post it during conference tourney week.
